Who is Jesus?

You have heard of Jesus. You may even have seen a film about His life. Perhaps someone told you that Jesus is a friend of sinners. You know what a friend is. A friend is someone who cares about you, and is there for you, even when you have done something wrong or bad. Everyone does bad things. Some things are very bad. We all do bad things because it is in our nature. Sometimes we can feel that something inside us is broken and wrong. We can feel bad. We can even feel very bad.

The only one who is always good is Jesus. He is loving and good. He is also very strong, stronger than anyone. Why? Because He is God. He is the one who created everything. He is really Jesus Christ, the Lord.

A long time ago, the Son of God came down from heaven and lived in the middle East, in Israel. His name was Jesus and He loved children. Many people followed Him, to learn from Him. One time He said to the adults around Him to let the children come to Him for a blessing. And this Jesus invites everyone to come to Him. That means you also are invited, whoever you are.

Because we do bad things, it would not be wrong if God punished us and made us somehow pay for what we have done. But God is so loving toward us that He has made a way to put things right.

Jesus was killed unfairly by Roman soldiers on a cross. Old Testament prophets of God said this would happen to the Messiah. And Jesus Himself said that it was all part of God’s plan, that He should die as a sacrifice for sin. When Jesus died, He died for people who would accept His sacrifice to make them friends with God by the forgiveness of their sins. How amazing is that? And we know that we can never be good enough for God to accept us. But Jesus has done everything that is needed to bring us to heaven at the end of our life.

Now Jesus is not dead. If Jesus was still dead, He would not be able to help us. No, He came back to life after three days. He was dead, but now He is alive for ever and ever, and He lives once more in heaven. He can help us. He can rescue us. He can save us because He was punished in our place, and because He is alive for ever. One day He will return, and everyone in the world will see this mighty Jesus.

Everyone who cries out to Jesus, and asks Him to make them friends with God is saved by Him. It is so simple. Many people from all over the world have called out to Him and been saved. Maybe you could call out to Him to save you as well. You might not see Jesus in this life, but He sees you, and He can hear you when you pray. Is there a promise of God in the Bible that He saves those who call out to Him. Yes, there is!

“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
